The French and Indian War changed the political face of America. The French, who had (1)  _______________________   controlled (2)  _______________________   stretches of North America, were now limited to two small islands near Newfoundland. The British, the winners of the conflict, found themselves in (3)  _______________________   of half of America and all of what would be Canada. Spanish controlled lands included New Orleans and lands west of the Mississippi River.
Many Native Americans were dissatisfied with these changes. They did not understand how white men thought, nor why they acted as they did.
Fights between natives and colonists were not wars as we might think of them today. They were usually just local conflicts, but they still had serious results.
Perhaps partly to (4)  _______________________   was the attitude some colonists had about other nations. Some thought the Native Americans (5)  _______________________   sub-human savages and not (6)  _______________________   of the considerations they deserved.
Many natives did not understand that when Europeans claimed land, it wasn't for (7)  _______________________   time use; it was permanent. Even tribal nations who farmed had to (8)  _______________________   their diet with hunted game. As more Europeans pushed in around them, clearing land and killing game, the natives had a harder time getting enough to eat. Many were forced to starve or move into another tribe's (9)  _______________________   (10)  _______________________   west. Some were tired of being pushed from their own land and decided to fight.
Before the end of the French and Indian War, many of the French trappers and traders had been pushed out of the Ohio Valley. They were replaced by British traders and trappers.
The French had adopted a custom of giving gifts to the local tribes every year. This helped keep the relationships between the nations sweet. The English saw themselves more in the (11)  _______________________   of conquerors rather than friends and saw no (12)  _______________________   to (13)  _______________________   the custom.
As more of the British colonists arrived, some of the chiefs thought it was time to (14)  _______________________   back. An Ottawa chief named Pontiac began to organize tribes all over the Midwest. In 1763, right at the end of the French and Indian War, his forces captured every British fort from the Straits of Mackinac to western New York. The only forts that remained were Detroit and Fort Pitt. What happened?
In 1774, traders and colonists began pouring into the southern (15)  _______________________   of the Ohio Valley. This angered the tribal nations already living there, and they began to slaughter the new arrivals in order to protect their own homelands.
This territory was claimed by Virginia, so the governor sent in troops to protect the colonists. On October 10, 1774, 3,000 soldiers defeated the 1,000 native people waiting for them near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The crushed Native Americans lost their hunting lands to the south of the Ohio River.

Short Answer
You are part of a tribe that is being pushed off your own lands by incoming colonists. Your hunting grounds are being cleared of trees, and most of the local game is being slaughtered by others. Winter is coming, and your family is already on the verge of starvation. What can you do to live?
